Welcome to The Garden Clubs of Illinois Website. Currently we have 8319 members in 206 clubs, an additional 18 affiliate plant societies, arboretums and the-like, and 27 Junior Clubs in Illinois. Founded in 1925, we are a charter member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., an international organization that is the largest volunteer gardening organization in the world. Wander through this site. The federation is governed by a Board of Directors representing all areas of Illinois. The President for the 2011 - 2013 term of office is Susan Cooney. Her theme is "Ensure Nature; Educate, Advocate". This challenges all members to reach out, not only to fellow club members, but also to the public. We will do so through our schools, workshops, and club programs. Communication to other organizations and the media enables us to "spread the word" as to what garden clubs offer and accomplish. Shirley Nicolai of Maryland was elected in May to serve as National Garden Club, Inc. president for the 2011-2013 term. The theme during her administration is: "Proudly Serving our Members and Communities." Florence Smith of Michigan will serve as Central Region Director during the 2011-2013 years. Her theme is: "Together We Bloom and Grow." We will learn more about Central Region's plans at the Central Region Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan, October 2-4, 2011.
